About Generous Java
Our Story
Our journey began in 2020 when a group of people, led by our Founder David Carolan, came together with a simple mission – to serve great coffee to those in need. For a whole year, we delivered freshly-roasted gourmet coffee each week to a ministry that served 5,000 cups per month to the homeless community. The positive response was overwhelming and inspired us to dream bigger. Our coffee crew realized the unique ability coffee has to bring people together and encourage discussion on ways to be generous and solve problems. We began envisioning a way to consistently offer exceptional coffee while sparking meaningful conversations about generosity. And so, the idea for Generous Java was born!
As we continued to grow, we looked for opportunities to share our mission and expand our impact. We began delivering free coffee to community events, including Good Shepherd Lutheran and Follow the Star. Over the course of a year, we delivered between one to five pounds of coffee at a time while spreading our message of generosity.
Our mission revealed a deeper truth.
As our impact expanded, we gained a deeper understanding of generosity within the Christian community and began to notice major gaps:
- Pastors struggle to effectively reach and engage their ministry
- There are many different views on giving and not all of them align with healthy or accurate biblical principles
- Available learning on generosity mostly targets the wealthy, leaving the average person without quality learning on biblical generosity and stewardship
- More resources are needed for people to gain a biblical perspective on stewardship
- Too many local nonprofits making an impact in the community go unnoticed
We knew we had to do more.
Our Impact
At Generous Java, we’ve developed a unique approach to bridge these gaps. Along with offering gourmet coffee at highly discounted prices, we dedicate a portion of our profits to support local ministries making an impact in the community.
Through our participation in community events, we demonstrate generosity by giving away free coffee and raising funds for our partner ministries. We also connect these ministries with local churches to foster growth and collaboration.
Our ultimate mission is to inspire generosity, which is why we’re developing a course to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to become joyfully generous givers.
