What does it look like to support foster families who are navigating the child welfare system?
We recently took a tour of Foster Village, one of our amazing partner ministries, to see firsthand how they’re creating a ‘community beyond the system’ for foster families. Join us as we take you inside to see how they’re making a difference in the lives of children and caregivers.
The Practical: Rooms with essential items for children in foster care.
For a child entering foster care, having a space to choose their own clothes that they love and feel confident in can mean the world. At Foster Village, kids get to ‘shop’ for brand-new clothes, shoes, bedding, toiletries, and other essentials to help them settle into their new home with comfort and dignity during such a major transition. Thanks to incredible volunteers, these resources are thoughtfully organized in different rooms to create a welcoming and empowering experience for every child.

Baby Supplies, Diapers, Baby Monitors, Bottles
Foster Village also dedicates an entire room to essential baby supplies, like diapers, baby monitors, bottles, and so much more. By providing supplies for children being placed in their new home, Foster Village helps ease the transition so caregivers can focus on loving and caring for the children.Every item at Foster Village is brand new so that children experience the joy of having something of their own. These essentials are 100% community-funded, through the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organizations, with no government funding. Now this is what generosity in action looks like!

Playground, Therapy, and Meeting Rooms
Healing happens in many ways, and at Foster Village, children and caregivers can find the support they need to navigate the foster care journey.
For children, play is a powerful part of healing. That’s why Foster Village provides fun and inviting indoor and outdoor play areas where kids can simply be kids. The play areas looked so fun, even we wanted to play in them! In addition to play, Foster Village also offers therapeutic support services to help children and families build connections and have the emotional support they need during a time of transition.
But healing isn’t just for the children. Caregivers need support too. Foster Village has dedicated meeting rooms for support groups and community gatherings where foster families can connect, share, and encourage one another, because a strong support system can make all the difference.
